When I
think of OKOM (our kind of music), easy listening musicdoes not immediately spring to
thought. In that vein of thinking, this CD is a bit different from
the usual CD’s reviewed on
www.misslana.com. As we all know though, different can
sometimes be pretty good. In the case of Find My Smile, different
is a good thing. Find my Smile is an easy listening
acoustic CD flavored with folk, jazz, blues, country and Tejano styles.
This recipe of musical genres mix well with Victor Andrada’s smooth
vocal stylings. As with all good recipes, one ingredient does not over
power the others and it‘s also that way with this CD.
Track 1: “Song For You and Me”- This is an upbeat, bright, and punchy
song. It tells of how one person can put your life on hold if you
let them. The character of the song, in frustration of being stood up
again, writes a song, and through that song, is able to move on with his
life.
Track 2: “Taos, NM”- This is an easy listening song that Mr. Andrada
describes as "the beauty of The Sangre de Cristo Mountains and The Rio
Grande River“. I would say subliminally it says that the true beauty of
life is always there, even in the rain.
Track 3: “Rescue Me”- This song is tinged with blues and heavily tejano
flavored . Nice guitar work.
Track 4: “The Other Side”- This song has a James Taylor-esque feel to
it. When someone close to us dies we all wonder what it’s like for them
on “The Other Side”. Andrada’s version is where we all hope to be
someday.
Track 5: “Find My Smile”- This one has some swing to it. Here we find
out the key to what makes Andrada “smile”, traveling and performing.
Track 6: “If Nothing Else”- Easy and bluesy version of one last
conversation with a soon to be ex.
Track 7: “Smalltown”- An up tempo song. You can take the boy out of the
small town, but you can’t take the small town out of the boy.
Track 8: “My Door Will Be Locked Tonight”- Slow and bluesy. When someone
keeps breaking your heart, sometimes you’ve got to lock them out of your
life.
Track 9: “I Can’t Say Goodbye”- Toe tapping swing. You can end a
relationship, but sometimes you can’t get the other person to leave.
Track 10: “Pensamientos de ti”- The artist describes this song as,
“Pensamientos de ti"- (thoughts of you) speaks of the desire to have a
lover return. I’ll take his word for it since I don’t speak Spanish.
This is a good Latin style song.
I recommend this CD if you are into good relaxing music. Victor
Andrada’s songwriting combined with his smooth vocals and skillful
acoustic guitar work, make this a very good CD. Through listening, one
gets the idea that Mr. Andrada is not only a participant in life, but a
keen observer of it. It seems he has the ability to find the silver
lining in almost every cloud. To sum this CD up in one sentence, I would
say it's like a feel good, lazy Sunday morning.
