Owen Temple Two Thousand Miles

I write this one having a liking for Mr. Owen Temple in the first place. Mr. Temple has a commercial appeal that is actually appealing. Since way back when I was a youngin', most commercially acceptable music has been unacceptable to me.
As a country singer, Owen has a good voice that is likeable, believable and friendly. He is back after a bit of a break, so let's get back on board with him and find out where his music is going.
The opening track, "You Want To Wear That Ring", is a good, simplistic and precise view on marriage given as advice to one considering the institution for himself. Many tracks here continue on about marriage, bad marriages and relationships like Track 2, "Red Wine And Tequila", track 4, "Two Thousand Miles" (the title track) and on other tracks as well... i.e., 6,7,8 & 9. Each track is equally worth the listen.
Track 5, "Can't Drink Enough To Sing", is a self explanatory piece about some folks' attempts at singing Karaoke style. "The Pluto Blues" of track 10 is a tale of the rising and falling of fame and how even Pluto isn't a planet anymore. I am sure we all have had or seen these experiences. so it's easy to relate. "Rivers Run From Many Waters". (track 11), is a wonderfully emotional telling of one's blood line and fathers to fathers.
"On The Lonesome Road" (track 12) is another good one with the great line, "I've got miles to travel and a heart full of songs to sing", another well written song.
I recommend when this CD finishes playing, you play it again and again, because it does have a "heart full of songs to play". Hats off to all the musicians and production people for a job well done. I would hope that the star, Mr. Owen, rises and he only sings about The Pluto Blues, and he himself never comes crashing down.

Editor's Note: I've been following Owen Temple since about 1999, and I have always enjoyed his music and was impressed with his talent the first time I heard him in person. Although this is the first review we have done of his music, he is still one to be recognized for solid songwriting and quality music. Do yourself a favor and give him a listen. |
