Family Gathering Camping Information

Here is some detail information about the City of Grand Prairie's Loyd Park on Joe Pool Lake that we hope will be helpful and create an enjoyable experience.

There are 3 different levels of camping:

RV sites include water and electricity, a picnic table under a shelter, charcoal grill and campfire ring, this is the only place individual campfires are allowed. These sites rent for 30.00 per night with a 3 night minimum.

Primitive Sites with Shelter have no utilities but include a picnic table under a shelter.  These sites are in the day use area and rent for $25.00 per night with a 3 night minimum.

Primitive Sites without shelter have no utilities and no shelter is provided. These sites rent for $20.00 per night with a 3 night    minimum.

Each RV site includes one vehicle in the price.  If you have a second vehicle there will be a charge of $10.00 per vehicle, per night for the extra vehicle but not more than 2 vehicles will be allowed at each site.

Each Primitive Site includes one vehicle in the price, second vehicles will be parked in overflow parking.  Parking in overflow will be $10.00 per vehicle, per night.   Each camping area that has primitive camping will be allowed a community fire, there will be a fire ring provided for each group of sites but individual fires at each camp site will not be allowed.  Please enjoy the camaraderie of the group fires.

Anyone entering the park just for the day to enjoy the concert will park at the overflow parking lot and the fee will be $10.00 per vehicle.

A shuttle will be provided to get you from the overflow parking to the concert area.  If you wish to visit someone camping in the park you are welcome to take the shuttle to their campsite. Please plan ahead and know where your party is going to be, it is a big park and you will save yourself a lot of time just by making plans ahead and knowing where you are going.  A map of the park camping and concert area is available at the front gate

A shuttle will be provided to help you get from the camping loops to the concert area, the shuttle will pick up at the beginning of each loop on the main road at approximately 20 minute intervals.  Since there is no parking at the concert site we encourage you to use this service as much as you need.

The park provides 3 restrooms without showers and 8 restrooms with showers.  These are scattered throughout the park and are designated on the map as #1 and #2.

Boat launching will not be allowed from Loyd Park for this particular weekend.

Annual Passes will not be honored at Loyd Park for this weekend as it is considered a "special event".

The front gate at Loyd Park is manned 24 hours a day and the phone is answered there at all times.  If you have any problems or wish to report any problems please call the front gate at (817) 467-2104.

We sincerely want you to have a great weekend and enjoy the concert, if you see anything that needs our attention that we might have overlooked or just haven't gotten to yet, please let us know.

Jay Johnson Turns His Tie Dye Tuesdays Concert Into a Virtual Reality

Jay Johnson

After a lengthy stint of Tie Dye Tuesdays at Love & War in Texas became a popular event for many local fans, Jay Johnson has decided to take it one step further.  Now starting March 18th, and every Tuesday thereafter (barring any unforeseen circumstances), Jay is doing a virtual online house concert from his home through live streaming.  His first attempt on the 18th was a hit with over 180 viewers.  As the series continues, of course, it is expected that this number will continue to rise as word gets out about this event.  There is also a live chat room where viewers can chat online about the show and give feedback, make requests, etc., and a comment section where viewers can leave comments about the show.

So tune in any Tuesday at 8 p.m. CST and see why Tie Dye Tuesdays are so popular with Jay Johnson fans.

In Memory

John Hartford, the man wrote "Gentle On My Mind", a song that Glen Campbell made a #1 hit, passed away June 5, 2001.

On June 6, 2001, Marvin "Smokey" Montgomery
of the Lightcrust Doughboys passed away.  He was  a legend in Western Swing in Texas and the world.   Jim's Uncle William used to play in the house band at the Big D Jamboree under Smokey's leadership.  He remembered Smokey as a tough perfectionist during a performance.  "If you made a mistake, you knew you would have to answer to Smokey for it, but after the show, he was the nicest guy in the world', said William of his old friend Smokey.  I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the loss of another great guitarist, who played with the great Merle Haggard, Roy Nichols, who passed on in May.

Sadly, the OKOM community in Dallas lost another talented local artist, Johnny Mac Cates, on June 14, 2001.  On June 21, 2001, the music industry lost a blues legend, John Lee Hooker, who died peacefully in his sleep at his home in California.  The country music genre lost another great pioneer on June 30, 2001, with the death of Chet Atkins, at the age of 77.  We will miss all of these artists, but you're gonna live forever in our hearts.  Now it is with deep sympathy that I add Joe Perry, former bass guitarist with Davin James and the Bullnettle Band, who passed away July 31, 2001.  Joe's bright smile will be truly missed, not to mention his great bass playing and back up vocals.  Rest in peace, gentlemen.

8/30/01 - I sadly add another person to this list...my father, Bill Burnside.  He didn't play an instrument but he could sing and sounded a lot like Dean Martin. He always has been and always will be my hero and I will miss him more than words can express. Oh, how I will miss him.   April 26, 1928-August 29, 2001

11/8/01 - November 3, we lost another great Texas musician, Champ Hood.  Champ was one of the best musicians I ever had the pleasure of meeting, and he will add beautiful melodies to heaven's band.  God bless you, Champ.

2/13/02 - Today we lost one of the original outlaws of Texas music...Waylon "Hoss" Jennings, who passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home in Arizona.  Waylon has suffered from diabetes which required amputation of his left foot in December 2001.  So long, Waylon.  Suffer no more. (Read our tribute to Waylon)
